The artist-in-residence program of Arctic Ceramic Centre (ACC) offers a possibility for ceramic artists to focus on their work in a peaceful environment surrounded by the beautiful nature. Artists are offered new contacts to the ceramic artists as well as to the local community. During the program artists are given a chance to showcase their work by organizing an open studio event and exhibition. Visiting artists will participate in developing the local art and cultural life.
The residency is located about 6 km away from the centre of Posio. Posio is a small (but lively) village with about 3500 inhabitants. In fact there are more reindeer than people living in Posio. But this is one of the things that makes the artist-in-residence-program so unique. Posio people are friend and eager to make the visit of the artists unforgettable.
Ceramics in a valuable part of the local culture. Pentik, the northernmost ceramic factory and the only ceramic factory in Finland is located in Posio. For more than 45 years ceramics has been produced here and the pure nature of Posio has been the source of inspiration for hundreds of ceramic artists.
The artists-in-residence program is managed by the Arctic Ceramic Centre Association. Since 2015 Arctic Ceramic Centre has been a member of the International Academy of Ceramics.
